The Diaries of Wilhelmina Brody

August 19, 1871
We are settling in here at Edenfield. The workshop is in dire need of a going over. Edward is taking a wagon into town to pick up the last load of baggage from the station.

The household is heading off to Sunday services. I am wearing the pastel green dress.

August 21, 1871
Mrs Sinclair is heading home. I noticed a certain spring in Mrs Frazer's step when she arrived back from the station.

August 22, 1871
A post arrived from Mr Reed the trials of the second pump design went very well.

August 24, 1871
Some of my geology samples have arrived today. I must remember to ask Sir C and Icky if either of them have experimented with electrifying crystals.

August 25, 1871
Who knew? I Had started my crystal experiments with the simplest and cheapest crystals this morning. I heard someone come into the workshop just as I applied a rather large amount of current to a salt crystal and it detonated! The resulting bang brought people running from all over the estate. Mrs Salmaline grilled me for a bit until she was positive that I was working with common salt and not gun powder. We then had the most cheery conversation about the problems of keeping notes in arabic.

August 26, 1871
Oh dear, poor Lt Wooster.

August 27, 1871
Today was spent building a container to contain any minor explosions that might occur during experimentation. I had the good luck to salvage a dressing mirror that Namasti happened to. The two large pieces afford me a excellent view of the subject, while I remain in perfect safely. I need to devise some method of adjusting the mirrors, but that can be put off until another time.

August 28,1871
I stumbled upon one of Edward's tin solders while searching for a worm gear. This put me in mind of last years yule and my dreadful lack of preparation for this years.

August 29, 1871
Another package from the geologist.
