The house is quiet. Mrs S took her cart to church this morning
so Edward is free to work on projects. The cart has caused quite
a stir Edward has been queried several times by acquaintances
wishing one for themself. I will have to deliberate about the
matter in detail.

The Trio were all abuzz when I arrived this morning. It seems
there is a new delivery boy that has caught their collective eyes.
I had a bit of a bad moment when Gertty grabbed my left arm I
am afraid I let out a bit of a scream and pushed her down. I
apologized and explained about the burns while helping her up.
I also told them about the dangers of poorly maintained steam
pipes and they seemed to take it into their heads that I had been
caught in a steam explosion. We had no sooner passed through
the doors when both Otto and Madam L pounced. Someone had informed
them of my invitation and they thought that I needed special tutoring
on how to act at a French Ball. Madam L seemed to be torn she
had some interesting cometary about the revolution and empire,
but she was determined that any pupil from Lady Ottoline Cornwall's
Lyceum and Gynocratic Mission was not going to embarrass herself
or her school. Half the day was spent with Otto and a group of
girls working on what she called polite conversation. Some of
it was not very civilized but it was said in a polite manner.
The afternoon was spent rehearsing all the dances that I might
encounter. It was amusing but my toes are aching.

Ohh, I can't wait!

The nerve of that man, or rather the lack of nerve. I can scarcely
believe he would Cut poor Helen in such a manner. I know of many
men who think that a woman who has been through what she has no
longer has a virtue, the Inspector never struck me as that sort.
His excuses of being on duty might have been enough to free him
from the dance floor, but they ring false when the man refused
to so much as say hello to the poor dear! Sir C took her around
the floor. I overheard her Aunts discussing how to deal with the
Inspector most of what they discussed seemed sensible to me. Men!

We have delayed our departure for a day. I sent two letters to
the French Embassy. The first thanking the Vicomtess(sp) for a
wonderful evening. The second to the ambassador asking for permission
to study the Swan in closer detail. Edward visited the shipyards
and packed up a project to work on in the country. While we were
there I discussed my thoughts on new pumps with Mr Reed.

Our exodus from London has been further postponed. Sir C and I
called upon my Aunt she was quite lucid and the institution has
a sterling reputation. We administered a dose of extract #18.
We discovered an amusing weekly, several of the servants laughed
out loud as Edward read excerpts from it.
