Sivan's Talking Watch

The Diaries of Wilhelmina Brody

July, 1 1871
The papers are full of speculation about how the government is going to look. Edward spent part of the day practicing with George and ended up with a bruise in a most indelicate spot.

July 2, 1871
Meeting of the Radicals tonight. The organization has grown a bit I will have some of the core members team up with the newer recruits.

July 3, 1871
Discovered that Davy has been missing for the past week. The Radicals are scouring the city for him.

Later, I can safely say that Davy is not at Otto's The Terrible Trio were only a duo this week Stela was away visiting her father. The other two seem to think he wants her to meet prospective bridegrooms. I found out he is a barrister who works for one of the MPs. Ruma gave my theory that Stela's Father might just want to spend some time with his daughter before he is consumed with the task of an election very short shift. During Emily's class I managed to get assigned to spar with Tina. She said she hopes to be as good as Emily one day, since no one will marry her with her scars. She is quite a good fighter but I think her vision of how she looked right after her bandages were removed has muddled her head. Sir C's treatments kept the skin soft and supple and while her complexion is a bit off I would not call her ugly.

July 5, 1871
It's late some of the new pumps have arrived. Mr Reed will have to finish unpacking them tomorrow.

July 6, 1871
Namaste has some new magazines today she is all a dither about Dr Wilson.

July 7, 1871
I went to speak with Mr Benlevi today about Davy. I now know where he is.

July 8, 1871
It's very late but I have been to see Davy. He is well and working on an exciting project with some artifacts from Egypt. I took some notes that Edward will have to pass on to Sir C in the morning.

July 9, 1871
Sir C was a bit troubled when he learned about Davy's project today. He is going to pass the information on to Sir Anthony tomorrow.

July 10, 1871
Stela is once again ensconced in the safety of Otto's school. She didn't want to talk about last week other than to say her father is very busy and no she didn't meet any hansom men. Math class was all algerbritic equations. Emily's class I was paired against one of the older girls I think Emily wanted to teach her a lesson about under estimating your opponent. After Classes were done Ruma followed me out she is sparking on George now.

July 11, 1871
First Lord of the Admiralty, Frederick Hibberd, Earl of Greyminster that has a nice ring to it.

July 12, 1871
Sir C and Namaste are at dinner with the Miss Pinker I am redesigning the plumbing for the sinkable boat out in the carriage house.

July 13, 1871
Some reform for the Universities today. I am not sure if it affects my long range plans. It is an encouraging sign though.

July 15, 1871
Namaste and Fong took tea today. I need to figure out how to squeeze 30 more feet of pipe into the sinkable boat.

July 16, 1871
Edward sent off a congratulatory note to the Emporer today.

July 17, 1871
What ever did I do to merit punishment like this? The Terrible Trio pounced on me as soon as I arrived today. Ruma taking the opportunity to pass George a note. Then it was one drama after another with them Stela lost her French primer and we had to go search her room, while there Gertrude wanted to show me the new gardener, and all of them had to fill me in on all the current gossip. The book was recovered from under a discarded dress. and I made my escape to the sanity of dance class.

July 18, 1871
A invitation arrived today for a special exhibition at Burlington House in Piccadilly this should be a pleasant evening. I might wear my blue dress.

July 19, 1871
I am glad Sir C hired extra help Edward spent the day in the Kitchen helping Mrs Murphy get ready for the dinner party. Everyone is quite exhausted but dinner was a success once I am done here I will go help straighten up.

July 20, 1871
Went into the shipyards today Mr Reed has the pumps set up. Something has to work or we are dead in the water, quite litterly.

July 22, 1871
I spent part of the day reading some drivel written by Davy's employer, Sir C had us in stitches with his quotation of a particularly silly passage.

July 23, 1871
George checked in with Davy today. I am looking over some of the notes right now there is much to be gone over.

July 24, 1871
Where do these girls come up with these Ideas, I arrived at Otto's and was set upon with the notion that George could take all four of us to a bakery that sells particularly good confections and have us back in time for class. I tried to persuader them that I really couldn't order George around like that, He does work for Sir C and all. They were actually up in the carriage when Gertrude noticed that George was missing. He soon reappeared in the company of Emily talking loudly about how he would gladly take her bundle back to the house. The presence of a teacher pulled the wind out of the Trio's sails. The rest of the day they were subdued even melancholy I ended up promising that next Monday I would bring some treat.

July 25, 1871
Lord Greyminster's bill passed the ladys of the household are quite proud.

July 26, 1871
Moving day for the Royal court Edward will attempt to visit the head steward a couple days after the move is over. The guards have taken to looking for him on the day of the move. Mr Reed and Edward spent the day tearing apart the new pumps. My somewhat radical idea didn't pan out, but Mr Reed says to keep tinkering with the model something might come out of it. He did approve my plan of having all the pumps on board connected to the ballast tanks, now in case of an emergency any one of them can be used to raise the ship.

July 27, 1871
What is it about me that makes Mrs Fraiser and Mrs Salmaline think of the worst possible outcome. George confessed today that they had braced him about marrying me. I am not my mother! How could they even think such a thing! George is a good friend but he is my cousin! Depravity is not passed down from mother to daughter.

July 29, 1871
Edward made it in to see the Head Steward the guards were all but asleep at their posts. He asked if he could attempt to make it to the throne room and leave a note. The Steward declined and then had Edward walk him through the castle. Three guards received a tongue lashing and extra work details. They startled one of them so badly his hat fell off, and when Edward handed it back to him the look upon his face was pure murder.

July 30, 1871
I spent the day cleaning up the work room with all the projects going it had gotten out of control.

July 31, 1871
I remembered to stop off for sweets before heading to Otto's. The sticky rolls were a nice distraction for the Trio while I went and found Tina who was drawing one of the girls resting on the steps. Sir C sent her a note asking if she would be available for a visit in the next couple days. Her treatment is about over but he wants to follow her progress for as long as he can. She turned bright red but agreed to the meeting. I then had one or two other girls to find and deliver notes to. Then it was off to dance Lady LaFlamboy commented on my progress but noted that I should not try to lead all the time.
