Sivan's Talking Watch

The Diaries of Wilhelmina Brody

January 10, 1871

My mind is awash with conspiracies and plots, where does one begin to describe today. The beginning will have to do. This morning began with Edward, Howard, and George out in the smithy working on Miss Namaste's present. About 9 am Mrs Frazer arrived at the smithy door and confided in me that I was being summoned to appear at an inquest. Since I had not arrived in Goxhill by normal means Sir C and I determined that I should arrive on the 1pm train. George and I scrambled into one of the smaller carriages and drove to the village of Whitedale where I caught the train. En route I changed clothing and procured a ticket that was purchased in London. Icky and Rip Chigwidgion were traveling on the same train and we had a wonderful time talking about Icky's bridge. Rip slept through most of the conversation. The inquest was a speedy affair I spent about ten minutes on the stand certifying that I had arrived by train just an hour before the hearing began. Procter Xanthus was produced at the proper moment and was encouraged to make a clean breast of it. Then we were all free to go. I retired early and Edward and crew went to work on the Sinkable Namasti. They are nearly finished.

Namaste's wedding present is done. Just in time too. G arrived today I pulled him aside to get his report on the radicals. We had the final fitting today, the dress is just perfect. I even arranged to have the milliner to use a couple of the feathers we brought back from Kor.

I presented Namasti with her wedding gift today. Both the Gs thought it best I do so outside so as not to damage the floors. Ruth tried to get me to change the design at the last minute but I held firm, the pictograms are cultural. Namasti played with it for about 15 minutes running around the yard picking up things having a jolly time of it all.

An extra entry today. I met another cousin today. His name is Natesh and he was trying to pass himself off as Edward. He made it past George and seriously injured Humphry before I was able to foil his plans. Sir C, Sir Charles, Salmalin, and I then had to take Humphry over to Goxhill Grange to resuscitate him. In the middle of the procedure the rest of the party showed up and insisted on standing around nattering. I was quite vexed with them, I am afraid I might have been more than a bit rude. They eventually moved on, I haven't a notion as to what they thought they were doing . Humphry was brought around. Then all the local machines came to life. Words don't do justice to the feeling that went through me. It was as if a million friendly people suddenly said "Hullo! Anyone home. We just stopped by for tea and biscuits." Then it was over much too fast. We made it back to the Manor just in time to get changed and down to the church for the final rehearsal. Miss Pinker could direct fleets, she is nearly directing an army here and everything went off without a hitch. Then it happened Mrs Cuthbert had a vision of mother standing up and claiming to be married to Sir C throwing the wedding in shambles. I had a vision myself of when Mother stood up followed by Rip, Namaste, and myself wringing her silly neck. We tracked her to the Victorian Arms and took her and her confederate into custody. Two members of my family used against Sir C and Namaste the shame is almost too much to bear.
