I don't know what I will do about the bullies in the household.
Part of me just wants to hit them, but I know that would only
make Sir C upset. Spent most of the evening working on the salamander
experiment alone.
November 2, 1870
Today was the reading of Miss Sinclair's paper. Mr Wroth one of
the Co-sponsors was demonstrating all the traits that make me
want to invent a cure for maledom.
November 5, 1870
The Sigglesthorne Autumn Fair, Guy Fawks day. My Guy seemed to
be a hit with the crowd several of the local children wanted to
know where I bought it. They were disappointed when I asserted
that I had made it myself. As anyone knows you can't BUY a proper
Guy. Humphry said it was the best Guy ever he could see it all
the way from the Grange.
November 6, 1870
Tomorrow Mr Frazer and Miss Sinclair are to be wed. The whole
household is in an uproar over it. I have just finished putting
the clock back together. The stain should be dry by morning.
November 7, 1870
Wedding day too much to do not enough time to write.
November 8, 1870
During the celebration yesterday Lt Wooster took a telegram his
Grandfather passed on. I have never seen a man drink that much
brandy and still remain upright.
November 10, 1870
Cosmo was out this evening. Instead of lessons I worked on the
salamander experiment.
November 11, 1870
Heading back to Goxhill. I have a surprise for Humphry I hope
they remain warm during the trip they get all manky if they are
cold.
November 13, 1870
Dr Wilson went swimming.
November 15, 1870
Edward managed to get into a scuffle today. That primitive Cleit
Malloy cornered Wee Willy as he was flogging his papers. He rolled
him for a duce! Howard and I found him staggering down the street
missing his keeks. We bundled him back to Sir Cs and I knew If
I didn't put a end to it now the Radicals would get a reputation
as a molly. George and Edward found Cleit and his crew taking
the piss and laughing it off behind one of the cheaper taverns.
Edward called him out there and then. He took Cleit apart like
a badly built clockwork. Cleit's crew could not believe their
eyes. It wasn't until Edward broke Cleit's other arm and Cleit
passed out that they jumped in and tried to nobble Edward. That
is when George jumped in. Howard and the rest of the Radicals
turned up sometime there. George's hand looks like he hit a brick
wall and I stopped a bat with my arm other than that the Radicals
came out unscathed. Cleit's crew were mostly laying on the ground
or showing their heels, all of them were still breathing. When
we limped back to Sir Cs they demanded where we were and what
happened.. I gave a mostly factual rendition with George and Howard
filling in details as Sir C and G patched us up and made me drink
some vile potion. I gave Willy the teeth I pulled out of George's
hand.
November 16, 1870
My arm hurts Salmalin had me do some stretches and Sir C made
me drink some more of his brew. Mr Reed Tisked at me but in a
good natured way he already had the story from Boc this morning.
November 18, 1870
My arm is really feeling better. Mrs Frazer is due to arrive tonight.
She is going to be apoplectic.
November 19, 1870
I had George deliver a note to Humphry explaining why I could
not call on him this weekend. I also sent along a fresh stack
of shilling shockers.
November 20, 1870
Spent the day in the forge. Salmalin said that it was good exercise
hammering with my left hand. My aim is off though need to work
on that.
November 21, 1870
Back in London. While out running errands with Mrs Murphy, Edward
ran across one of Cheit's crew he took one look at us and ran
away. George said that was almost the proper reaction.
November 22, 1870
Mrs. Whitnell Has joined our household temporally.
November 24, 1870
Dr Wilson is off to Hornsea to test some new inventions.
November 26, 1870
Sir C looked at my arm today. He said the bones look straight
and are healing nicely. He then fed me some more of his drink.
November 28, 1870
Sir C and Mr Reed are both in a dark mood. The First Lord said
Mr Reed and a host of other personages all but pushed the HMS
Captain over. He also resigned his post so there is nothing
Mr Reed and Sir C can really do about it.
November 29, 1870
Mr Reed spent most of the morning with a model of the HMS Captain
in the test tank. Several of the engineers were taking lots of
notes. Sir C and G stopped in briefly.
November 30, 1870
The Powered diving suits have their hulls . We need to install
fittings and pressure test them.
December 1, 1870
Spent the day working on Christmas presents.
December 2, 1870
On the train to Goxhill everyone seems oddly at peace.
