Excerpts from the diary of
Mrs. Victoria Salmalin

4 May 1875

I wonder if Shiva got my letter?

When we travelled to the moon I was still very concerned that we had not found time to search for Mr Mercer.   I had learned in my journey through time that he had Captain Forrester's original heart (as opposed to the “Star of Victory” that was currently embedded in his chest and had hoped to talk Sir Cosmo into allowing me to go in search of the heart before our next encounter with the Fist of Shiva.   However most of our day was taken up with the underwater search for the Moonblade.

I did manage to visit each of the ships in our rapidly growing fleet and mark them with my own wards, so I will know if someone tries to magikaly tamper with them.  I took Octavia with me-- after yesterday's incident with the grenades I just felt like having her near me-- also I impose on Violet and Daru enough as it is.   Once we return home from this adventure, I really must look into getting a nursemaid of my own-- though I have not yet broached the subject with Mr Salmalin.

While we were on the moon I was not worrying about such domestic trivia.  I was worried about when, not if, the Fist of Shiva would show up and how, not if, we would stop him from crushing us all flat in his single-minded search for the Moonblade.

When at last we were ambushed, it was George who came up with a clever plan to keep the Fist of Shiva away from us while we battled the more human members of Sir Ephriam's vile crew.  Mr Mercer fair murdered Emily, so Mrs Cuthbert and I were greatly taken up with keeping Emily and her babies on this side of the veil.  Lieutenant Wooster was driven to take drastic action against Mr Mercer when Wooster saw Emily fall and he nearly emptied his Gatling pistol into Mercer-- as I found out when I went to search the body.

Sometime during the fight, Mr Voach arrived and shared his miraculous milk with Emily, Sir Cosmo, and Lady Cowperthwaite (all of whom were badly injured).  In addition, Galen had slipped his handlers and was bringing Mommy her gun-- this had the fortuitous effect of bring Major Powell up from the surface (he had stayed behind to guard our ships against sorcerous attacks).   Major Powell arrived just as I found the sack with my ex-husbands still-warm heart inside.  Even though it has been weeks since he made his sacrifice to Shiva, the heart was still just as it had been when it was removed.

We raised power for the spell that we had discussed earlier in the day and were able to return Captain Forrester's heart to the Fist of Shiva.  The Star burst from his chest and there was an explosion and the Fist of Shiva disappeared.  I do not know what has happened to Capitan Forrester as a result of our actions.  It is possible he is dead, but I would not count on it.

Captain Nemo caught the star as it fell away from the former Fist of Shiva.  I cautioned him not to look deeply into it as that did appear to be the mechanism by which my ex-husband had been mesmerized into removing his own heart.  Captain Nemo seemed mildly insulted that I would assume he would do such a thing and I'm afraid I may have added insult to injury when I tried to explain that I, since I didn't know him, I couldn't know how much of an idiot he might be.  Hopefully he will take my warning in the spirit it was intended, and put any rudeness on my part down to nerves.  Between Emily's blood and that from the heart of my ex-husband, I'm afraid I may have presented rather a distressing sight.

Sometime during all of this, Lady Cowperthwaite found the Moonblade.

So at this point, Lady Cowperthwaite has the Sword, Captain Nemo has the Star, Captain Sparrow has the path, and Mr O'Flaherty has the Shield.  That leaves the Book unaccounted for.

On our way back from the moon we could see many ships rounding on our fleet.  We must make plans to deal with the latest nuisance as quickly as possible.
