Excerpts from the diary of Mrs Emily Wooster (Emily Bertilde that was)

Mar 13
It is visiting season.  Lady Helen has invited us for a week long visit in Uffington.  It will be nice to see her and Lord Sir Inspector Simon.  After that, I shall be going on to visit my Mother In Law for the Promised Visit.

You wouldn't think that 2 such small bundles wouldn't cause so much extra luggage, but they do.  There are so many things that seem to be rquired to take them for any length of time.  As we were trying to leave for the 3rd time when one of the servants came running out with the duck and the cloth bunny.

I was wishing heartily for Mr. Cain (who was, of course, on the ship with Henry but would have magically taken care of all this).  Then I heard an accordian in the distance.  I've come to know that warbly sound.  I think it's even the hat song.  Henry and Mr. Cain came around the corner.  I guess they caught some smugglers and got to come back early.

Mar 14
we have settled into the McGreggor's house (s)?  We are split between 2 houses on the property.  It was quite interesting getting all of us from the station to the property.  I guess we kept them running carriages all day.

It is a very lovely property.  There are places for the older children to play and some nice napping spots.

We have been invited to Professor Maple's house for an "at home" tea party to meet Mr. James Moriarty who is a lecturer at somewhere I forget who is here as a visiting lecturer/professor.  There was a big explanation about all the posts, but I didn't understand why the readers couldn't lecture, or the lecturers couldn't read or fellows wear puffy pants, and did you know that professors don't read but might lecture?  Anyway, I elected to stay home and take a nap.

Well, that was... Unexpected...  I was awakened from a lovely nap by Galen poking me.  He told me that "Mommy said to flee."  I started gathring all of us and the children and herding us to the safe room. Galen asked if he shouldn't take Mommy her gun.  I reminded him that Lady C was with Lord Sir Spencer and there were probably enough.  Galen agreed but then told me he couldn't find Rupert.  So next we went looking for him.  Robert called from my room that he had found Rupert.  Rupert was snuggled into my weapons trunk cuddling my hairstick knives.  It was the sweetest thing ever.  I got one of the servents to help me carry him and the trunk to the safe room.  Helen said she asked the McGreggor ghost to go find out what was going on, but that she wouldn't necessarily hear an answer.

To keep everyone occupied, we started doing our morning warmup exercises.

Everything was fine, though.  When everyone got home, we heard the story of the Trellis Garden Accident.  They heard our story of Galen hearing Lady C's Voice and Rupert hiding in my weapon's trunk.

Mar 16th
Another short night.  In the wee hours of the morning, both Henry and I woke up suddenly.  Henry swore that he heard an explosion.  When I realized that the twins were asleep, I turned back over.  Henry went to find out if anyone else heard anything.  A bit later, He woke me up, something about Atlas not exploding, and then said that the rest of the group were heading into town to find out what etheric thing had exploded.  Only then there was a knock at the door and a constable said that someone was dead and Atlas was in jail.  The constable did a lot of sirring.  I told him that he wanted Lord Sir Spencer.  Lady C poked me and said that Lord Sir Cosmo had * 4 * knighthoods.  Wow.  I don't just work for a baron, I work for a Lord Sir Sir Sir Sir Cosmo.  But then again, I guess I'm a Lady Lady Mrs. The Honourable Henry Wooster.  At least in Carpania, anyway.  I think I'll stick with Mrs. Wooster.

It turned out that Atlas intercepted an explosive divice that ended up taking him up, over the hospital, exploded, and dropped him in a pond.  While he was being pulled from the pond, they found a body and arrested him.  After hearing his story, Victoria took him back to the house to recover.

Wilamina headed over towards Oxford.  Lady C and I followed.  Something about a couple of students she heard talking and it was time to start knocking on doors.  I tried to tell her that this was a really innapropriate time knock on doors and that there would be no knocking while I had anything to say about it.  At which point Lady C asked if she was now taking orders from me?  No?  Then knock away.

um. ok.  Right then.  I'll be over here waiting until there is something to hit.  I know what I'm supposed to do there.  I'll ask Mrs. Pinker what I did wrong when we get home.  I'm not sure what to do with the crib notes in my fan are wrong.  And I'm pretty sure that any woman knocking on doors of a male household in the wee smalls of the morning is Not Done and thus wrong.

In any case, Mr. Salmaline knocked on the door while the mini argument was happening and asked to speak to someone in charge.  Soon we were in the Dean's office with the 2 students.  The funniest thing happened.  The dean, with a huge bump on his head, raised his eyebrow and the students started babbling.  I gather they didn't mean to make a bomb, so Lady C toom them to be lectured by Lord Sir (to the 4th) Cosmo.  By that point, I was feeling the need to get back to my babies, but I wasn't going to say anything if Lady C wasn't.  I didn't want to draw her attention negatively again.

It's one thing to turn in a resignation because I feel I haven't been doing my duty, but a completely different one to get out and out fired.  If I were to get fired, how would I EVER get good references again?  I mean, Lady C did imply I was giving orders that I shouldn't have and impertanance is definitely grounds for dismissal.  I can't tell you the number of friends I have who have been sacked for much less than I did tonight!

We finally made it back to the house.  The twins were fussing and wanting breakfast.   I was happy to oblige them.  After they went back to bed and I had breakfast, I pulled Mrs. Pinker aside and asked her about this morning.  After some confusion, she said I did the right thing and that she would have a talk with Lady C.  Perhaps I won't get sacked after all.

Since Wilamina looked she was up and about for the day, I went to change clothing and go shadow her.  Looks like I'm back on duty.
