Excerpts from the diary of Mrs Emily Wooster (Emily Bertilde that was)

Sunday, 12 September

We're off to rescue the princess.  There is a house with a humungous store of autonite and Princess Henrietta.  Prince Steffan's sister came up with a plan to go in and see the princess and get her out.  Willamina and I are to be her maids and Salmaline and George are to be footmen.  Hopefully we'll be able to get her out before things start blowing up.

--Later--

We were met by a little black man.  He was kind of the same height as the man in the dragon's cavern but looks more like the little man at either the clockwork or the toy makers.  I don't seem to remember which.  Anyway, we were led to a parlor and then locked in.  But we went out on the veranda and took a walk.  Then the little man suddenly appeared  in front of us with a refreshment tray.  I told them not to eat the honey.  He turned to me and said, in English, that the honey wasn't poisoned and that he was not Holleybush and.  Well,  how did he know about the dragon cavern? This is bad!  We tried to tell the man that we would go back and have refreshements after the princess had her walk.  The little man got kind of agitated.  Later, Wilamina told me that he was telling us we would go back, the prince wanted us, and that we would go if he had to drag us.

Then a gun went off and chaos broke loose.

The little man splattered onto Wooster and someone else that came out of the bushes with him.  Willamina tried to get me to take the princess and everyone else to safety while she went into the house.  I wasn't having any of that and followed her.

We climbed up the wall and into a man's study with maps.  And proceeded to chase Willamina down a hall.  We kicked in a door to find Prince what's his name grabbing Princess Gabriella and sliding down a zip line.  And Willamina followed.  I had to!

I'm sure the trip was short, but it seemed to take forever.  As we flew through the opening of the boat house, there was so much to try and take in.  Lady C was picking up a gun, Prince Hinerick's arm and gun was flying up and being caught by someone who was already aiming a gun at pring Hinerick.  Princess Garbiella was facing prince Hinerick and had a useful handful of trouser.  Good girl!

And then I realized that there weren't breaks on this zip line.  Wooster was also down there some where.  I closed my eyes and dropped, intending to tumble.  Wooster got himself tangled in the tumble.  We landed with me on top and him keeping me from falling in the lake.  This boat house has holes in the floor.  What a horribly maintained structure!

We heard Lady C start yelling about running.  We had to get out of the hole before we could run.  I was struggling to get up when Mr. Bay was suddenly there with a helping hand.  He's as good as Mr. Cain that way.  We made it out of the boat house in time to see Wilamina taking off with her rocket pants.  She IS bound and determined to get away from me.  I began to chase.  Then Sir Cosmo and Lady also went over.  Shortly after, there was a series of booms and a bright flash of light and a big boom.

I finally caught up to Wilamina and the Cosmos.  Galen was telling Sir Cosmo about the adventure.    Wilamina was sitting quietly off to the side.  I went over and stood by her and started working on my sword edge.  This sword is ok, but has been sitting in a dragon's horde for a long time and needs so much work.  Mr. Salmaline and George found us as I was remembering that I should tell Sir Cosmo about all the maps that we ran by in the house.  We all got up and headed back that way.  We got there just as several soldiers were  carrying Atlas into the house.  He looked pretty badly injured.  Victoria was headed in as well but looking very tired.  She asked if I would be willing to watch both her and  Atlas while they slept.  Another good opportunity to work on my sword edge.  This is going to take forever.

Atlas finally woke up.  He started muttering and rumbling and Mrs. Samaline woke up.  He seems to have done some dreaming.  I didn't understand everything he said except something about someone not being all the way dead and it wasn't Hugo.  Mrs. Cuthbert started one of her sessions and was talking with one of the murder victims when Mrs. Frazer and Mrs. Samaline and Mrs. Cuthbert all started  yelling about the children and danger and we were suddenly off and on our way back to the lodge.

--later--

Well.  Poor Mr. Cuthbert has quite the repair bill.  Another demi-god wolf and his minions attacked.  The children all did very well and barricaded themselves in the nursery.  Many of the house guards got hit by a sleep spell and were out cold.  Poor Aaron got injured slightly. Lord Grayminster (!) was also injured.  George somehow managed to get here ahead of time and did something with one of the ghost fathers.  He got a bit injured too.  And we found a man/wolf stuck to the wall of the armory with a gob of gob gun goo and Owen sitting on the gob gun and mr. Samaline.  Wilamina started going off about doing experiments on the thing.  I wouldn't let her.  She told me later she was just trying to intimidate it.  I never know when she's bluffing or telling the truth.  She went off to find Sir Cosmo to ask permission.  When we got back, the werewolf had escaped and knocked Mrs. Samaline out.  Mrs. Cuthbert helped her wake up, but when Mrs. Samaline tried to start chanting to do another spell, Mrs. Cuthbert helped her fall asleep again.

We've all had a very long day.  There is a Russian Embassy ball tomorrow evening that Wilamina is dying to go to.  I better get to sleep now because tomorrow is also going to be a really long day.  And we have a 3rd werewolf trying to attack us, and, more importantly, the children.  Yarg.
