September
I have a man in my head! Of all the horrible
things of today, that's the last straw that broke the camel's
eye. Or was that the needle that broke the camel's back?
Camel in a haystack? I can never remember. Whatever.
First the ground went out from under my feet and we were pulled through
the ground. Just like in the space ship and now I can't trust the
ground to not move. Then we were in a horrible circle of skulls
talking to a dragon (a really BIG one) and a crazy fay person who
wanted us dead. And the dragon (who I take is a she) thought I
was Sir Cosmo. I think. Oh, it's probably important that
the dragon appears to be Vee's grandmother?
But then things got more bizarre. Because the dragon went all
civil (after kidnapping us. By magic!) and invited Wilamina to
see the mechanisms in her hord. I kept trying to keep her from
touching things, but she would handle them and try to see how things
work. And I'm going to be in so much trouble over that! I
was so afraid. But I was also angry. I tend to work better
angry so I encouraged that feeling.
Only then a man's voice went off in my head. I ended up
screaming. The dragon offered to take him out, but I didn't
want her messing with my head more than I wanted him out. So she
offered us tea. She made the horrible little man who wanted us
dead make the tea and offer it. Why did none of my lessons with
Miss Pinker ever say what to do if a dragon offers tea but you don't
even want to be there? In any case, I wouldn't put it past the
horrible man to poison us. He said no, but that if I wanted
poison, watch out for honey. Honey? Honey is poison?
How can I ever eat it again?
Then Hugo (that man in my head) spoke up again. I jumped and
dropped my teacup. Wilamina caught it, but I spilled tea all over
her dress. Now I'll have to pay to replace it. Wah!
Anyway, Hugo says he thinks if we could activate the crystal in the
last mechanism, it might could defeat the dragon. I asked him how
and he gave a couple of impossible scenarios. One of them was by
creating a spark with an amber rod and a cat. Or was that a silk
scarf and a cat? A cat and a buttered piece of bread? But
we didn't have a cat. So I told him to think of something easy
and easily explainable. And nearly died of fright again when the
dragon suddenly piped up right next to me asking if He was bothering me
again and did I really not want her to help? She picked up a giant blue
crystal and said all I had to do was touch it and that Hugo would go
away. I was afraid it would suck my soul along with his and told
her no.
Hugo piped up at that moment and told me to close my eyes. When I
did, there was an odd picture of him and an easle with a drawing of the
room and a dotted line from my saucer to the crystal that the dragon
was holding and that hitting it would knock the crystal into the
machine which would charge the crystal and get it started. So,
after looking at it a bit, I threw my saucer.
And my babies kicked! I think that must be what I just
felt! Wah!
Then there was a loud boom and something yelling about them being here
and the noise of an aerofrigate. The dragon started
yelling. Hugo wimpered, "kill the mortals, oh no!" At that
point, the golemn got up and started going for Wilamina. At
last. Something I don't have to pretend to like! I attacked
it. Too bad golemns are made out of rock or something. My
sword broke after the 4th hit and the golemn hit me and knocked me a
long way. I landed on a pile of gold but couldn't breathe.
I tried to pick up one of the swords lying around, but ended up with
just a hilt. Then I started picking uppieces of gold and throwing
them at various moving statues. Soon, Wilamina showed up on the
back of a bronze bull which started working on goring and tossing the
statues.
Finally, there weren't any more moving things to hit. Wilamina
asked if I was ok. When I answered no, Mrs. Cuthbert ran over to
help. Shortly after that, Namaste yelled that we needed to
flee. And then Stalmockerson picked me up (all the ladies got
picked up) and we ran like crazy. As we came out of the,
Wooster came crashing out of the sky. He got picked up and we
kept running. Then there was a big, ground shaking book and a
wave of light. Then silence. Suddenly Bay was there
offering tea and Lady C and Galen (who we left behind) were at a table
and pouring tea. The thought of tea after that horrible little
man was unbearable. But Bay was kind and make some cocoa.
And then Henry showed up and I had hysterics. A nd then I wanted to see
what the gold coins I put in my reticule were like after the time
problem. My bag fell apart as I opened it and two gold nuggets
and one coin fell out. And then I had to tell Lady C that I let
Wilamina touch things. Suddenly I was very tired and asleep.
Next thing I knew, we were to Pottsdorf and I was being carried
off the erofrigate. I was feeling better but still not all
better. I think it will be a while before I'm feeling normal.
Oh, and I just realized that I don't have my sword anymore. It
was left in the cavern when we fled. And probably dust or raw
materials. No hope of fixing it now. Rest well, Matilda,
and thank you for the grand service. Unfortunately, I shall have
to use my second best sword. It's not a bad sword mind, it's just
not as beautifully balanced as Matilda was.
It was decided that we should go to the bar where the anarchists were
drinking. I was not feeling up to going into a bar, so I decided
to stay with the carriage and dissuade those who might try to
escape. It turns out that one was a servent to one of the
princes. Mrs. Salamaline did a history spell on him and found out
that he was in cahoots with the prince he was serving. Now we're
off to go secure some cache of something. Will this day never
end?.
