Excerpts from the diary of Mrs Emily Wooster (Emily Bertilde that was)

Wednesday, 11 August
Another dressmaker appointment today.  You'd think I was all posh or something the number of times I end up going a dressmaker.  This one is to get ready for a royal wedding over on the continent in a few weeks.  We'll be staying with Sir Cuthbert in his hunting lodge.  La.  Listen to me  going on.  Dressmakers, jaunts to the continent, hunting lodges, and visiting royalty.

Then Mrs. Pinker came over to spend some more time giving Willamina lessons before her coming out.  I didn't know there was a fan language.  My favorite thing was learning to poke people in various ways, including giving a bruise without it looking like I was going to.  I tried it out on Himself and it worked!

Thursday, 12 August
Edward was needed to look at some fancy clocks that are starting to lose time.  I thought all clocks lose time...  Since he was going to a clock makers, I thought I'd go along and see what one cost as a possible gift for Himself.  They were so much more expensive than I thought that I decided I shouldn't even touch anything in the store.

Friday, 13 August
We went to a play by Nigel tonight.  It bore a remarkable resemblance to our recent sea trip.  Only not quite.  Henry whistled the songs all the way home.

Saturday, 14 August
Tonight was the big night for Wilamina.  It was her coming out party.  Wilamina came down after getting ready.  She was so lovely.  She even had Him looking at her appreciatively.  I used my fan.  And told him no vinyards.  It was a very lovely party, although it was very late before we got home.  We all watched Willamina very closely.  There were some fabulously beautiful and expensive dresses there!

I can't believe how late it is.  And Henry didn't come home with all of us.  Someone said they thought He went with Atlas and Sir Spencer.  I don't know when to expect them home. You know.  I've been thinking that it has been ever so long since Cain had a day off.  I mean he went with us on our sea voyage and there weren't many days off then.  I think I shall go let him know that since we don't know when Wooster will be home and needing his assistance, he can have a half day off.

And it's done.  I told Cain that we'll be happy to see him tomorrow after luncheon.

Sunday, 15 August
Henry finally showed up about sunrise.  He was rather put out that there was no special sauce to help with the hangover.  I didn't even let him sleep.  After all, we're heading to His mother's house.  He should help me with the packing.

Monday, 16 August
Before we could even leave this morning, I got a letter.  From the Admiralty.  I didn't quite understand at first and thought it was mislabled for Henry.  I asked Henry who assured me it was for me.  Cain ever so kindly looked at it and pointed out that I really needed to be fitted for a special ceremonial dress.  Which, of course, means that I really need to leave at least a half day later.  He was then so kind as to send an explanation telegram to Henry's mother.  He also set up the appointments and generally made everything happen that needed to happen.  Cain is so amazing!  Henry also got a letter.  I hope he's not in too much trouble.

Later...
wow.  As the dressmaker was fitting me, she found out I didn't know what it was for.  She told me that she was supposed to make me something similar to a marine kernal jacket.

The train ride was uneventful.  We made it safely to Toaster hall.  Only it said Towchester on the gate.  I asked Him why and he said that's how it's spelled.  I wonder how come?

During the trip
Time seems a bit disjointed on this trip.  Lady Yaxly asked me how much activity I would be up to on the trip.  She seemed rather shocked that I would still be doing my calesthenics.  There has been a nice combination of activity and quiet and chocolate.  There seems to be an unending supply of hot chocolate.  And breakfast trays in my room.  And watching Henry and his father jousting and getting knocked of their horses.  It turns out that this trip has not been the dreadful trip that I was dreading.  Evelyn is quite nice.  I suppose it helps that Agatha isn't here this time around.  It also seems to help that I'm expecting.  I didn't realize it at first, but there was one too many wispered asides of “she's in that Condition,” “oh!”.  I wasn't expecting to be fussed over.

The gathering of the local gentry on Thursday was rather intense.  I hope that I won't be expected to remember all the names!  There were so many!  Oh, and I got to see the fan poke in action!  Henry and his father were singing some duets when they started talking about a certain song.  Lady Yaxly thwapped Henry first, then his father, and then moved on.

Heh.  I was out doing my calesthenics this morning and Lord Yaxly was thrown off his horse right near me.  He ended up joining me.  It was a nice workout.  And then Evelyn found us.  For once, it wasn't me getting in trouble!  Lord Yaxly got in trouble and was then shipped off.  Then Evelyn asked me if I was ok.  It was rather amusing.  I can't get over how excited everyone is here about Them...

Monday, 23 August
Home again.  Somehow, the staff at my house has suddenly started showing up with hot cocoa at my elbow any time I sit down and put my feet up.  I rather like it, although I should probably start curtailing the amounts since it's rather expensive...

We had another fitting today.  I had to get the final fitting for my Admiralty outfit.  My it looks trim! There were also fittings for the wedding.  I'm rather shocked about how many dresses I'm getting.  I didn't know I'd be getting a fancy hunting outfit along with the dresses.  There are some lovely dresses in the lot.

Thursday.  The 26th.
It's The Day.  Many of the ladies of our party are getting awards.  I'm SO nervous!

Later...
Wow.  I'm a kernal.  Or at least an honorary one.  I even have a medal and a letter to prove it!  Dahlia came up afterwards and, before I could even say anything, informed me that a Kernal is the same rank as a captain and that I outrank Henry now.  Of course, the wife always does, but...  :-)

Henry insisted that we head over the Bombards right away to show off my new coat and medal.

Wednesday
Henry got an award today for the Battle of Bengal.  Along with the other gentlemen in our party.  There was another party at the Bombards afterwards...

Sunday the 5th September.
Made it safely to Pottsdorf.  There was a shared dream about Miss Mezger being in trouble.

When we got off the train, and Henry immediately became a victim of the local Dibbler.  He bought a glass clock, a winding key, a pamphlet, and 2 fried root vegetables on a stick.  He tried to offer me one.  I didn't want to offend him because he was trying to be helpful, so I told him I wasn't feeling so well and would he please eat both of them?

It will be good to rest in something not moving.
