Excerpts from the diary of Miss Emily Bertilde

June:

slept too well last night--tired out by boat ride. woken by companions who had strange dreams. i didn't want to come back to london by boat. mrs cuthbert offered to help condition with magic. nervous, but all it did was put me to sleep for the trip back. missed lessons, but feel much better.

talked with graves about night off to hold class with pauper girls. now only need to decide where. probably in same place, although farther from current residence.

went to rescue nigel again. not in trouble again. maybe boy should take self defense lessons as well. could always use a new pell. almost had to ride in carriage of all men. lucky didn't have to.

got clarification: stay with edward/wilamina. and i did. killed several thuggees. never thought to see them. edward/wilamina and george safe. strange man (pelew) followed us. almost attacked him in fight. he helped defeat thuggees then climbed drainpipe--has feet like edward/wilamina. pelew is really edward/wilamina's father.

job hard on clothing. need to replace dress--soon fit only for workout. should probably keep spare set in carriage. will give request for materials at soonest oportunity. at least don't have to buy own clothing anymore. otherwise would have to ask for raise... will start having ladies at morning lessons all attack at once. getting out of practice fighting large groups...

rejoined group and went to theater--much different from last theater. same neighborhood as bar we found nigel in. didn't have to dress up. much better. 3 dandies made trouble and got just reward. something about fire. much too involved in watching show. one lady looks like miss namaste. nigel came home with us. hmpf. another man in the house.

Proceed to 4. 14 thugees attacked
