June:
talked with samaline. will work with women on defense lessons.
samaline tricky-did not follow lesson plan. sudden attack on ladies,
but most were able to fend him off. good pretest. now know where
each is and how to get on with training. samaline also asked each
why they couldn't hit him. good answers. each beginning to realize
defense not a game. lives in danger can be saved if one knows
how and is not slow in responding. miss namaste shows great promise.
have invited her to work with me in morning and evening exercise.
continued defense lessons. starting with the idea that can use
anything in defense: rocks, clothing, sticks, odds and ends left
in courtyard, anything really. stop the attacker any way possible.
Will continue this way for a while.
turned in request for new bodice stays and bodice material.
edward/wilamina went with sir cosmo. went shopping with miss witnel and miss namaste-needed thread and new trimming to mend bodice until replaced. wouldn't let me go to rag picker like usual. had to spend several pence more at dressmaker. awed with their purchases. one dress would feed all my pauper girls for long time. dress must cost more than whole savings. glad i don't need one...
woken up in middle of night to chase lost young man. wasn't lost, but in house of ill repute. kept eye out for toughs trying to go above their station. heard a fight in alley. heart goes out to the scream I could not attend to. must stick to paying job. maybe soon go back out. must talk to sir cosmo--need to find a place to continue my girls' lessons...
continuing lessons. miss namaste joined me last night and this morning for workout. seems distressed. not paying as much attention as needs to. will talk to her if continues. ladies want me to learn hindi. not more bookwork...
edward/wilamina attacked! must watch more carefully. must also ask sir cosmo who my main duty to. should i spend most time with edward/wilamina, or with ladies? what should i do when parties go different ways? so confusing. more comfortable with ladies, but edward/wilamina not often with ladies. if with him, must spend time around more men. what to do...
chased down dr wilson and french man. something
with balloon went wrong. had to ride boat. not quite ill, but
not happy. stayed out. will there be travel stipends?
